In 1986 Adrienne and Peter Skumbis decided to venture into a small business along with their future son in law, John Philipopoulos. Peter taught high school history and his wife, Adrienne was teaching elementary school at the time. John was working long hours in another restaurant and attending college. A family friend had mentioned that the Sandwhich Saloon in San Pedro was for sale and so began union of quality food, family, and a growing business. Later that year, Peter retired from teaching and joined his partners in reinventing home-style food with the help of Adrienne's superb culinary skills and innovative recipes.
In June of 1987 John married their daughter, Nikki and the business along with the family continued to grow. As time went on, the restaurant began to flourish with new ideas for salads, sandwiches, and hamburgers. The customers know that when they go into the Sandwich Saloon they will be greeted with warmth and an ingratiating smile. The immense feeling of family and community is met with delicious food and love.
